The Night Watchman

By Ellis Daniel Willmore

The student got a discount from his school
To run the big computer room at night;
He asked the guard "Are you some kind of fool?
Or did you just run down your pocket light?"

The watchman gaped until the kid complained
"You put a parking ticket on my hood!"
The young man waved the paper and explained
"The school will drop this ticket -- if you would!"

The watchman said, "Why do you have to make
Insane demands like that on people, Jack?!
The world has never given me a break,
And I will never let you ride my back!

The rules you need are written on the wall!"
And then his footsteps echoed down the hall.
